Abstract:Training Large Language Models (LLMs) on heterogeneous clusters presents significant challenges for collective communication, as hardware from multiple vendors introduces diverse network and computational characteristics. Existing collective communication frameworks (e.g., NCCL, RCCL) designed for homogeneous environments fail to address mixed-hardware setups, while communication libraries with heterogeneous support (e.g., Gloo, OpenMPI) incur heavy overhead in the data path. This paper presents HetCCL, a framework that enables heterogeneous collective communication by efficient P2P transport across heterogeneous devices (e.g., GPUs), eliminating the host-device memory copy overhead while offloading the control to the CPUs. For combining collectives (e.g., AllReduce, ReduceScatter), HetCCL introduces a border-communicator mechanism that achieves vendor independence by using the intrinsic reduction in the combining collectives in vendor collective communication libraries. With efficient heterogeneous P2P transport and portable reduction mechanism, HetCCL proposes a hierarchical topology abstraction for heterogeneous clusters, dissecting collective communication into cluster-level primitives that guarantee optimal cross-cluster data transfer volume and optimal bandwidth utilization. We implement HetCCL with 4 different vendor support and evaluate it in 4 heterogeneous settings with benchmarks and end-to-end LLM tasks. Our evaluation shows that HetCCL achieves 17-19x higher bandwidth than Gloo in heterogeneous communications, and speeds up end-to-end training by up to 16.9% in the per-step-time.
Abstract:Role-playing with large language models is fundamentally a session-level task, requiring agents to sustain character identity and interaction quality across extended multi-turn conversations. Yet existing evaluation and optimization methods remain largely turn-level, failing to capture long-horizon quality. We propose DynSess, a unified session-level framework for role-playing agents. DynSess-Eval scores complete dialogue sessions via rubrics targeting long-horizon behaviors. Leveraging its session-level rewards, we construct high-quality training trajectories through multi-turn lookahead search and train DynSess-Character with two complementary variants: DSPO (off-policy) and GSRPO (on-policy). Experiments show that DynSess-Eval aligns with human judgments substantially better than prior evaluators, and blind human evaluation further shows that DynSess-Character matches the strongest character model despite using substantially fewer parameters, while maintaining strong role consistency and interactive ability. Our dataset and code will be released to facilitate future research.
Abstract:Interactive world models for first-person shooter (FPS) games must resolve high-frequency overlapping control signals at every frame without disrupting unaffected regions. Existing methods inject actions globally and train on single titles, failing under dense FPS inputs. We observe that FPS actions are spatially selective: discrete events such as firing or reloading affect only a localized region around the weapon (the scope), while continuous camera and movement signals govern stable surroundings. We propose SCOPE, which inserts a conditioning module into each transformer block of a pretrained video diffusion model. It reshapes features into per-pixel temporal sequences so that each position computes its action response from local visual content. This separates in-scope effects from out-of-scope generation without segmentation labels. We also introduce CrossFPS, the first multi-game FPS dataset with frame-aligned action telemetry. It comprises 69K clips from 7 titles with 10-DoF controller signals, curated to remove gameplay bias. The model learns general visual-to-action mappings rather than game-specific patterns, enabling zero-shot transfer to unseen scenes. Experiments confirm strong action responsiveness, precise scope separation, and effective cross-game generalization.
Abstract:Document retrieval in real-world scenarios faces significant challenges due to diverse document formats and modalities. Traditional text-based approaches rely on tailored parsing techniques that disregard layout information and are prone to errors, while recent parsing-free visual methods often struggle to capture fine-grained textual semantics in text-rich scenarios. To address these limitations, we propose \textbf{Unveil}, a novel visual-textual embedding framework that effectively integrates textual and visual features for robust document representation. Through knowledge distillation, we transfer the semantic understanding capabilities from the visual-textual embedding model to a purely visual model, enabling efficient parsing-free retrieval while preserving semantic fidelity. Experimental results demonstrate that our visual-textual embedding method surpasses existing approaches, while knowledge distillation successfully bridges the performance gap between visual-textual and visual-only methods, improving both retrieval accuracy and efficiency.
Abstract:The decentralization of modern energy systems is transforming consumers into prosumers who continuously exchange data with aggregators, peers, and market operators. While such data is essential for peer-to-peer trading, demand response, and distributed forecasting, it can reveal sensitive household patterns and introduce privacy risks. Existing data sharing mechanisms rely on fixed policies or predefined differential privacy budgets, limiting their ability to adapt to variations in reliability, data sensitivity, and request purpose. As a result, prosumers rarely receive explanations for why a request is accepted, rejected, or modified, reducing trust and participation. To address these limitations, we propose X-NegoBox, an explainable negotiation framework for adaptive privacy budgeting and transparent decision making. Each prosumer data is managed locally within a private DataBox, where raw data remain confined. Incoming requests are processed by an Autonomous Privacy Budget Negotiation Protocol (APBNP), which determines an appropriate privacy budget based on trust, feature sensitivity, declared purpose, historical behavior, and risk-aware pricing. When needed, APBNP generates privacy-preserving counter-offers, such as reduced resolution or duration. An Explainable Agreement Layer (X-Contract) produces human- and machine-readable justifications for each decision. After agreement, requester code executes locally in a sandbox, and only sanitized outputs are shared. Experiments on realistic energy market settings show reduced privacy leakage, higher acceptance rates, and improved interpretability.
Abstract:Despite remarkable progress toward general-purpose video models, a critical question remains unanswered: how far are these models from achieving true multimodal reasoning? Existing benchmarks fail to address this question rigorously, as they remain constrained by straightforward task designs and fragmented evaluation metrics that neglect complex multimodal reasoning. To bridge this gap, we introduce CLVG-Bench, an evaluation framework designed to probe video models' zero-shot reasoning capabilities via Context Learning in Video Generation. CLVG-Bench comprises more than 1,000 high-quality, manually annotated metadata across 6 categories and 47 subcategories, covering complex scenarios including physical simulation, logical reasoning, and interactive contexts. To enable rigorous and scalable assessment, we further propose an Adaptive Video Evaluator (AVE) that aligns with human expert perception using minimal annotations, delivering interpretable textual feedback across diverse video context tasks. Extensive experiments reveal a striking answer to our central question: while state-of-the-art (SOTA) video models, such as Seedance 2.0, demonstrate competence on certain understanding and reasoning subtasks, they fall substantially short with logically grounded and interactive generation tasks (achieving success rates <25% and ~0%, respectively), exposing multimodal reasoning and physical grounding as critical bottlenecks. By systematically quantifying these limitations, the proposed method provides actionable feedbacks and a clear roadmap toward truly robust, general-purpose video models. Abstract:Offline multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) aims to learn the optimal joint policy from pre-collected datasets, requiring a trade-off between maximizing global returns and mitigating distribution shift from offline data. Recent studies use diffusion or flow generative models to capture complex joint policy behaviors among agents; however, they typically rely on multi-step iterative sampling, thereby reducing training and inference efficiency. Although further research improves sampling efficiency through methods like distillation, it remains sensitive to the behavior regularization coefficient. To address the above-mentioned issues, we propose Value Guidance Multi-agent MeanFlow Policy (VGM$^2$P), a simple yet effective flow-based policy learning framework that enables efficient action generation with coefficient-insensitive conditional behavior cloning. Specifically, VGM$^2$P uses global advantage values to guide agent collaboration, treating optimal policy learning as conditional behavior cloning. Additionally, to improve policy expressiveness and inference efficiency in multi-agent scenarios, it leverages classifier-free guidance MeanFlow for both policy training and execution. Experiments on tasks with both discrete and continuous action spaces demonstrate that, even when trained solely via conditional behavior cloning, VGM$^2$P efficiently achieves performance comparable to state-of-the-art methods.
Abstract:The transition from image to video understanding requires vision-language models (VLMs) to shift from recognizing static patterns to reasoning over temporal dynamics such as motion trajectories, speed changes, and state transitions. Yet current post-training methods fall short due to two critical limitations: (1) existing datasets often lack temporal-centricity, where answers can be inferred from isolated keyframes rather than requiring holistic temporal integration; and (2) training data generated by proprietary models contains systematic errors in fundamental temporal perception, such as confusing motion directions or misjudging speeds. We introduce SynRL, a post-training framework that teaches models temporal primitives, the fundamental building blocks of temporal understanding including direction, speed, and state tracking. Our key insight is that these abstract primitives, learned from programmatically generated synthetic videos, transfer effectively to real-world scenarios. We decompose temporal understanding into short-term perceptual primitives (speed, direction) and long-term cognitive primitives, constructing 7.7K CoT and 7K RL samples with ground-truth frame-level annotations through code-based video generation. Despite training on simple geometric shapes, SynRL achieves substantial improvements across 15 benchmarks spanning temporal grounding, complex reasoning, and general video understanding. Remarkably, our 7.7K synthetic CoT samples outperform Video-R1 with 165K real-world samples. We attribute this to fundamental temporal skills, such as tracking frame by frame changes and comparing velocity, that transfer effectively from abstract synthetic patterns to complex real-world scenarios. This establishes a new paradigm for video post-training: video temporal learning through carefully designed synthetic data provides a more cost efficient scaling path.
Abstract:Can humans detect AI-generated financial documents better than machines? We present GPT4o-Receipt, a benchmark of 1,235 receipt images pairing GPT-4o-generated receipts with authentic ones from established datasets, evaluated by five state-of-the-art multimodal LLMs and a 30-annotator crowdsourced perceptual study. Our findings reveal a striking paradox: humans are better at seeing AI artifacts, yet worse at detecting AI documents. Human annotators exhibit the largest visual discrimination gap of any evaluator, yet their binary detection F1 falls well below Claude Sonnet 4 and below Gemini 2.5 Flash. This paradox resolves once the mechanism is understood: the dominant forensic signals in AI-generated receipts are arithmetic errors -- invisible to visual inspection but systematically verifiable by LLMs. Humans cannot perceive that a subtotal is incorrect; LLMs verify it in milliseconds. Beyond the human--LLM comparison, our five-model evaluation reveals dramatic performance disparities and calibration differences that render simple accuracy metrics insufficient for detector selection. GPT4o-Receipt, the evaluation framework, and all results are released publicly to support future research in AI document forensics.
Abstract:Learning-based real image dehazing methods have achieved notable progress, yet they still face adaptation challenges in diverse real haze scenes. These challenges mainly stem from the lack of effective unsupervised mechanisms for unlabeled data and the heavy cost of full model fine-tuning. To address these challenges, we propose the haze-to-clear text-directed loss that leverages CLIP's cross-modal capabilities to reformulate real image dehazing as a semantic alignment problem in latent space, thereby providing explicit unsupervised cross-modal guidance in the absence of reference images. Furthermore, we introduce the Bilevel Layer-positioning LoRA (BiLaLoRA) strategy, which learns both the LoRA parameters and automatically search the injection layers, enabling targeted adaptation of critical network layers. Extensive experiments demonstrate our superiority against state-of-the-art methods on multiple real-world dehazing benchmarks.
